[Gift] Pass it Along--Scarfox-1626: Esther--YLP

It was a beautiful star filled night, the moon was about half full, casting a gentle glow over the word below. Shooting stars streaked across the sky as Esther flitted about through the trees. He paused, lingering on a branch, tilting his head up to watch for a moment the gorgeous trails of light, blazing through the inky black sky, before taking off again. The cool air felt nice against his body as he skimmed through the air. Before long he reached his goal, a large stone structure. It clearly used to be some sort of tower, but it had been long since abandoned, the forest having in large part reclaimed it. Vines climbing up the outside, and moss covering almost every stone, though it was derelict, it still stood strong. Estler approached the door, pushing foliage out of the way and ducking his way in before making his way up the staircase that spiraled up, clinging to the outside wall. There were places where stairs had fallen away, and he had to be careful to watch his footing lest and loose rocks cause him to lose his footing, but it wasn't long before he made it to the top. He pushed a half rotten wood trapdoor out of the way and pulled himself up onto the terrace. The view was breathtaking. The sky was impossibly clear, and up this high there were no tree branches or anything else to obstruct the view. He laid on his back and looked up, mapping out familiar constellations. Without anything creeping in on the edges of his peripheral vision it was easy to feel almost like he was falling straight down into the sky. He imagined himself there, flying around, visiting distant stars and planets.

He fell asleep there, cradled amongst the stars,  the night covering him like a blanket. His dreams took him to all the places he’d imagined as he fell asleep. He rode a meteor across space, hopping off to slide down the rings of a giant purple planet, landing in a field of the strangest fruit trees he’d ever laid eyes on. He cracked one open and saw that it, too, contained the universe.

Eventually the sun started to rise and the warm licks of light brought him back from his adventures. He stretched his arms out wide before scrubbing his hands over his face, climbing to his feet to watch the sunrise over the treetops. He leaned against the battlements, face squished into the space between two of them, enjoying the weak warm morning sun and the way the sky shifted through a litany of hues before settling into an early morning soft blue. Slowly he made his way back down out of the tower to head home. The whole night felt like something incredibly ethereal, the ephemeral nature lending itself to how lovely it was. He decided on his journey home that he would have to bring someone else with him next time, this was too wonderful of a place to keep just for himself.
