Pass It Along: January 4

Nilla liked to have fun. She was relatively young by Scarfox standards, even if she didn’t entirely understand what that entailed in the long run. What she did know was that she liked to have fun and make food for herself and others. Her ultimate favorite activity was baking. She had a knack for it, and spent a lot of her time and resources trying to hone that skill.

Many other Scarfoxes likened her to some kind of sweet treat. They said she was like a strawberry wafer, and Nilla could understand why others would think that. She was pastel all over, mostly pinks and creams in color with some browns as well. She looked like a puff pastry in a way, and perhaps that was why she liked to make sweet foods most of all.

She also had a pair of chompers that were jagged and frightening looking. She could bite through just about anything, and when she laughed, her jagged teeth were on full display and that sometimes scared others. Though that might have been more because of the Hollowness of the trait itself, and how sometimes a little mist would escape here when she was particularly tickled by something funny.

Nilla didn’t let any of that stop her, though.

This fine afternoon, she was setting up a picnic for a friend of hers to enjoy. She wanted to impress this friend, and they hadn’t known each other long, but Nilla still wanted to put her best foot forward. She had made a few types of confections to spread out on the large checkered blanket. The blanket itself was black and white checkers, since it was a little more unique than the typical red and white checkers. It made her think of fun board games.

Once the blanket was set out, Nilla placed her picnic basket on one of the edges and smoothed out the wrinkles in the blanket on the grass. She had told herself that perfection wasn’t actually necessary, no matter how many times she joked about having to make a perfect first impression.

This wasn’t even a real first impression. It was more like a third impression, since Nilla and this other fox had definitely spoken before.

She set back to setting up the dessert spread. There were cupcakes and flaky croissants and chocolate truffles, all beautifully stacked. There was a whimsy to it all and once it was set up, Nilla dusted her large hands off and patted herself on the back for a job well done. Her friend was supposed to be here soon, and Nilla hoped that they would enjoy all the work she put in to make this moment matter.

Once a few minutes passed, her friend had, indeed, arrived. They had even bee a few minutes early, and Nilla’s heart swelled when they were speechless about all the food she had prepared. It was perfectly fine to take pride in one’s work. Nilla offered her friend a seat and together, the two of them ate tasty desserts and talked about all manner of interesting things.
