Visit From The Sea

Today was particularly hot, of course it was Summer, but there was nothing about this boiling heat that Brii liked. Sure, she didn't have to do any work with Noir at this time, but she did not enjoy melting in the sun. Brii was in the Hidden Garden with her new found friend, Grand Endeavor, or simply Endeavor, which he preferred she call him. Endeavor was a tall, blind scarfox who had run into Brii while she was exploring the forest one day. Brii would continue to see him almost every day so he would have some company. He somehow managed to get around despite being blind, even the eyes on his arms did not work. Their gaze often wondered about. Brii did not mind. “Aaauuuuhhh, this heat! I can not stand it! Can’t you think of something that would cool us off, Endeavor?” Brii whined. “Mm..perhaps..the water?” Endeavor suggested while pointing to the direction of an opening of the Garden that lead to the coast. Brii looked surprised “..how did you even know it was that way? You are an interesting one, old man..haha! Anyway, sure, that sounds like a perfect idea actually” Brii smiled and started to the opening, grabbing Endeavor’s arm to lead him. They walked sort of slow to make sure Endeavor did not fall, and Brii waved at foxes that passed them by. Endeavor stopped suddenly and turned his head slowly towards the eateries they had almost passed, Brii looked up and followed his gaze. “Ah, you must be hungry?” she asked, “mm..” replied Endeavor with a slow nod, so Brii led him around all the stands and he stopped once again, it was at a place that sold fruits. “Which one would you like?” Brii asked, handing him a wooden menu with raised dots for the ones who are blind, Endeavor felt over them with his finger and stopped with it on one that looked a little twisted and red with small greed spikes on it. Brii told the fox running the stand and handed them the crystals for the fruit and after a while of waiting for it they handed Brii the fruit. It was bigger than she thought, but handed it to Grand Endeavor anyway, a little smile spread across his face and bowed his head to Brii, the sort of thing he does for thanks. “My gratitude..young one” He said in his deep voice as he bit off some of the fruit as they walked back out into the main part of the garden where the opening was. They chatted for a while, Brii mostly about how Noir is really good at her spells, but she’s also never not busy, she could chatter all day if she could. Endeavor simply smiled and happily listened, he enjoyed having a friend who appreciated his company and all this made Brii forget about the summer heat for the time being. Finally they reached the opening to the Coast, there were a few other foxes here but they went to a space where there wasn’t anyone. Brii stuck her foot in the sand “Wow, I haven’t ever been this far out before! What about you?” She asked, “When I was young..” Endeavor replied, Brii was hopping around in the sand and laughing “Sand is such a weird material, it’s so easy to slip on” She purposely tried to slide around on the small sand dunes. Endeavor just stood and took in the nice ocean breeze, and sighed. It had actually been a really long time since he had been out here, and despite not being able to see any of it, the way it felt was enough for him. Brii continued to play until she found herself in the water, she did not go far out and stayed close to the shore. She was picking up some shells and letting the waves hit her feet. Then she ran back to Endeavor and opened his hand, and laid a sea shell on his palm. It was a Conch. The outside was rough and had a few spikes on it, but the inside was smooth. Endeavor felt it, around and inside and then held it in his hand. “For you! I want you to have it, it is a shell! Some say that you can hear the ocean’s call when you hold it up to your ear,” Brii mentioned excitedly “take a listen!” Endeavor did as she said and rose the shell up to his long, bat-like ears. He sat for a minute and stayed still. “I..hear something,” he said “Yea?? What’s it sound like?” Brii asked “I hear..ech, someone else..they’re in the water..about to rise..! Get behind me!” Endeavor quickly tucked the shell in his waist belt and threw himself in front of Brii, this was the fastest she has ever seen him move. It was kind of scary to her, yet oddly endearing. He was in a protective stance in front of her, he did not know who was coming out of the water, but it was someone, another fox. They seemed to have a lot of aquatic features, such as fish fins, tail and a golden trident. Brii poked her head out from behind Endeavor, trying to see who this water fox was. “Ahh, land dwellers!! It’s so nice to see some of you this time! Every other time there has been no one around. I am Poseidon! god of the sea!” The mysterious fox glanced down at Endeavor and Brii “ohh, there’s no need to be afraid! I won’t hurt a single thread on either of you. I have simply come to shore because I’m seeking to fit in with you land foxes! Might you help me on this quest?” Endeavor let his guard down and let Brii around. “I’ve..no experience in..apparel..” Endeavor said to Poseidon, and Brii spoke up “oh, hello there! I’m Brii, and this here is my friend Grand Endeavor. He’s blind, but he actually knows his way around pretty well. Anyway, I’d love to help you with a land outfit! It’s summer, so it can be a little stylish this time” She said excitedly, and Endeavor nodded. “Splendid! Now, what do you all tend to wear up here in this season?” “Well, we really don’t wear much up here, but during summer you can wear things like sunglasses, sunhats, flip flops, and sooo much more! But if you’re not into that, we can always make a little something.” Brii explained, and Posiedon happily nodded “Making something sounds nice actually! I don’t think actual clothes would go well with my find and horns unfortunately...what do we make?” Poseidon asks, and Brii thought for a moment. Then Endeavor held out his hand with the conch in it “mm..” he murmured. “Ah yes! Perfect! We shall make a shell outfit! I just love those” Poseidon exclaimed. And Brii agreed, so for the next few hours All three of them came up with ideas for a shell outfit and settled on a shell grown and necklace. Brii had searched and dug up tons of sand to find some shells, and Endeavor provided all the string needed using his magic. When they were done, Poseidon allowed Brii to put the Shell crown and necklace on him, and in return he gave them both a great meal to eat, it mostly consisted of fruits since it was what Endeavor liked to eat the most. “Well, land dwellers, that was mighty fun and helpful of you to make me these wonderful creations! I will cherish them for all my days, you have my utmost thanks! And before I leave..” He stepped up to Brii and handed her a shiny pearl, it was white of course, but with a few spots of pink scattered throughout the pearl. Brii smiled brightly “thank you so much, poseidon!” and as she said that, he dove back into the water. Brii and Endeavor turned to head home, as it was getting dark. And the entire way, Brii was talking about their encounter, and her pearl. Endeavor held his shell and walked with her and smiled, he had enjoyed this experience with his new friend, and he hoped they would be able to do more adventures like this more often.
